About us

Houghton Haus

Run by Jayne and Patrick Houghton we have over 30 years combined experience working within adventure tourism, the last 10 years working within the disability tourism sector.

We have more to offer than a chalet and bed for the night. From the moment the idea was born we designed the building with accessibility in mind with wider doors, open plan living and ramp access to the building, see our accessibility page for more.

We understand that planning a holiday away to somewhere new can be stressful. That is why we have actively scoured the area for accessible walks, activities, places to eat and drink, toilets etc. We welcome any questions you have through email or telephone to help make a holiday one for everyone.

We have a deep love of the outdoors and during our time in the UK we would be away camping, climbing or canoeing at every given opportunity. Nothing to extreme, just a gentle relaxing time with the occasional moment of fear thrown in just to get the senses tingling to let us know we were still alive.  We decided to take the jump and set up Houghton Haus after multiple trips to the Alps. We noticed a huge lack of disability friendly accommodation and understanding for any type of disability be that physical, cognitive or any other.

We want to share with you our enjoyment of the outdoors, along with our experience working within disability tourism and our belief that everyone should have the opportunity to have these experiences.
